Is NordVPN Good? My 1 Year Review

Is NordVPN Good?

I’ve been using NordVPN for the better part of a year now, so I think I have pretty good handle on the ins and out of it all. I have 3 devices that have it currently installed: my phone, my laptop and on my desktop.

On top of that I have also physically taken my laptop and phone over 3 continents and have tunneled through NordVPN. If there’s anyone who would be able to have a good idea of its overall functionality it would be.

Is NordVPN good? NordVPN has multiple characteristics that allows ease, no log with total privacy, and functionality which makes it a good choice for a VPN user. The user interface is highly intuitive and easy to install across multiple platforms. It is also inclusive of allowing access services specific to the country you tunnel into such as Prime Video.

Some VPN services have been flagged by streaming services as to not allow you access via VPN. Others have been notorious for difficulty in setting up. NordVPN has redundant servers to connect to, and is easy to install.

This makes it a candidate for options from flagged VPN servers allowing connection and anonymity as you wish.

Is it Good for Streaming Services? Yup.

If you’ve ever flown to another country outside of the USA and attempted to watch Amazon Prime Video, you may have had your screen pop up with an error.

Once you’ve dug into the error a bit further, you’ll see that Prime Video has noticed you’re traveling and has stopped giving you access to their streaming services.

Prime Video may allow some entertainment, but the options of what you can watch are heavily restricted while you’re travelling.

This is also the case with YouTube paid services; you’ll notice you can’t have YouTube to continue streaming while you’re not watching the app if you’re travelling abroad.

This is unfortunately the case with so many streaming services. They’re either going to be restricted or non-functional. And if you’re wondering if this is the case for Hulu and Netflix?

They are not the exception. Hulu will not allow streaming services; while Netflix won’t play movies or shows from home.

The good news is, there are VPN services that will help!

The bad news is, that VPN servers will sometimes get flagged by these streaming web services so you won’t be able to watch the services.

Fortunately, NordVPN is insightful enough to allow you access to streaming services by having redundant VPN servers.

What that means is, you have a selection of servers you can choose so you that you can continue to have access to Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and more without interruption.

Is NordVPN Good for Multiple Platforms? Like the iPhone or Desktop? Yup.

As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been using NordVPN on three different platforms: my mobile, desktop and laptop.

NordVPN has been smooth on all of these platforms. It’s a quick download from their website, with wizard step by step instructions.

If it takes you more than 5 minutes to install NordVPN and have it running, I’d probably recommend finding a course on how to power on your computer.

My laptop is a Lenovo Yoga, and I use it to watch a lot of my shows and movies while I’m on the go ie whenever I’m not in my apartment.

Many times I have been in other countries where I have used it to watch streaming shows and it has worked tremendously.

If I ever feeling watching something available in Germany one day and Argentina the next, NordVPN is good for it. Just find NordVPN country’s server, and in 5 seconds you’re there.

When I’m in my apartment, I have a desktop connected to my large monitor. That’s where I end up doing a lot of work. The desktop is custom built and guess what? Yeah, NordVPN works really well on it.

My last platform is my iPhone, and yes it works great there too. The features are the same to automatically choose your default VPN country or choose another if you wish.

NordVPN has Great Privacy Policies

You may not know this, but it’s common practice for some Internet Service Providers to log every website you access.

With NordVPN, your connection to the internet is hidden from Internet Service Providers. To make it extra safe, NordVPN also gives you the option to double your VPN.

This addition gives you the opportunity to go through one VPN server, and for an extra measure go through a second VPN server from the first server. Sounds overkill right?

I’ve only used a single VPN to take care of my day to day internet use.

You probably have the thought looming if NordVPN keeps logs of websites you visit like Interenet Service Providers do, the answer is a resounding no. You can feel free to browse the internet without a helicopter parent.

Would I recommend it?

Seeing that it’s worked for me this past year and it’s worked over all of my devices, I would say of course!

The idea of being connected through NordVPN gives me a sense of information freedom and personal privacy. I don’t think I can go back through browsing the web without it anymore.

There are a lot of other options to set up a VPN on the internet. These are probably legitimate ways to tunnel for privacy, but I think what gives NordVPN the edge is the minimal amount of effort it takes to install.

I’ve worked with a VPN called OpenVPN that had to be installed over another software called pFSense before.

Trust me that takes a while. Even though that was my first introduction to VPNs I didn’t choose that for my day to day use.

Because NordVPN is good for the flexibility it previous this was the optimal choice for me.

I’m in tech, and some friends ask recommendations about tech. If they ever ask what VPN they should use, I would say use NordVPN. It’s relatively inexpensive and it takes no time to setup.
